I think such as in general for matters related to state policy. They may cut themselves off completely, they may want to get involved, they may follow the fate but do nothing, and so on.
At school, they teach us such a concept as patriotism. That your homeland should be protected if it is attacked, etc.
Unfortunately, wars were often caused by the stupidity of the ruling elite, and people from the lowest social classes were dying.
Governments such as the present Polish government have always led to trouble in the past, and this one would have led us to ruin, were it not for the European Union.
In the face of war, one can adopt the attitude of withdrawal, flight. Not to participate, but to run away.
You can also take the stance of getting involved, patriotic and fighting. But it is important to remember that not everyone who escapes is not a patriot.
Currently, in Poland, the concept of patriotism about the homeland is very distorted and is associated with half-heads running with machetes and with the Catholic government ruining our economy and retracting our educational and moral system by some 200 years.
It depends on whether a given country is an invader and occupant, or rather a victim of an invasion.
In the first case, some people will want to attack someone else's country in order to expand their own territory, goods, influence, gain recognition, honors, degrees, etc. Other people still on the invader side will be against it, recognizing that war brings suffering, death not only to the invaded country, but to the soldiers of their own country. Others, although they will not take part themselves, may support the raid and, for example, support the army financially, etc. From time to time, people who want to help the victims of the raid may be among the invaders.
As for people attacked by a foreign country. Some will want to take an active part in the war and fight for their country, whether as soldiers, partisans or scouts. Others will want to cooperate with the so-called enemy as long as they have peace and keep, for example, themselves and their family alive and in reasonably good conditions. Still others will want to escape. Others will not do anything, they will just try to survive. Others may find a great opportunity to get rich at someone else's expense. And others will not be able to adopt any attitude or they will die.
It happens that people during the war block some human reflexes, such as compassion and thinking about others, or they go crazy, etc. The war can do a lot of wrong.
